Good trails, with a little elevation change. Well-maintained, with a peaceful, woodland atmosphere. Not a super long hike, and not too remote either. Careful with dogs and children, as I did come upon a shockingly large cottonmouth on one of the trails. When I warned someone else, she didn't know what a cottonmouth was, so I would like to recommend that you familiarize yourself with the dangerous animals native to the area. You are likely to see venomous snakes and spiders, as I haven't been on a hike here that I didn't at least see a brown recluse, and one of the trails is literally named after copperhead snakes lol. It would be embarrassing if you got bit by something that by all means you should have been able to recognize and look out for. There's also A LOT of poison ivy, so know how to recognize it, and try not to brush against any plants at all. They do have plenty of information available at the entrance office, so pick some up with the trail map. These trails feel very safe, but it's still the wilderness, folks. Restrooms are very nice by the campsites, and the one by the basketball court is fine, just no fountain and it has an older camp feel. The fountains at the restrooms are filtered refill and drinking, just about the perfect hour mark into a hike around all the trails. There's a good lookout on the Brazos, though there's no bench there.

Peaceful place with lots of birds chirping all around. Huge kettle of vultures along one trail. Trails are all easy and well maintained. Headquarters is also a park store with apparel, food, and supplies. Full hookup RV sites, some with good privacy. The nature center was closed every time we tried going. Clean bathrooms. Good starry nights.

This is a beautiful very well kept park. We hiked the trails and the scenery was beautiful. It was so peaceful, full of plenty of shade, and tons of turns and inclines. The staff is so nice and helpful. I recommend grabbing a map at the front office upon arrival. The ladies are so nice and will mark all the go to spots on the map for you. There are tons of benches on the trail to sit in rest, restrooms, bike trails, and camping grounds. The park doesn’t open until 8am, getting there early is better for beating the crowds. Your day pass is $5 you can purchase it online or at the office. I purchased ours online. I highly recommend visiting this park. It is an amazing experience and brings you peace walking through nature. Just beautiful!

Stopped to see what the park had to offer and got an extra bonus as it was free admittance day. Drove through most roads and hiked a couple of the named trails. All hiking is listed as easy...and I agree. Didn't see much wildlife while hiking but did see a couple of deer. The checkin office has a small shop.

SFA State Park is a great park. Its trails are great for hiking. Watch for snakes, hogs, deer, opossums, barred owls, and all southeast Texas wildlife.
